ABYAN, Jan. 01 (YPA) – The leader of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), Fahd Makni Al-Fathani, escaped an assassination attempt that targeted him yesterday, Tuesday, in the Mudiyah district of Abyan province, southern Yemen.
Local sources reported that unknown gunmen, suspected of belonging to terrorist elements, detonated an explosive device that they planted next to a water well in the area of Sura Al-Mashaikh and Qarn Madwa, in an attempt to target Al-Fathani and gunmen loyal to him who were present in the area.
The incident did not result in any injuries among the gunmen loyal to the STC, but it sparked a state of terror and fear among the residents.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that gunmen have targeted leaders in the STC factions in Abyan. Last year, Aref Makni Al-Fathani, Fahd’s brother, was assassinated in a similar operation in Mudiyah District.
This incident comes amid escalating violence and assassinations in Abyan, which is witnessing conflicts and tensions between various armed factions.
