5 American soldiers injured in attack on military base in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Aug. 06 (YPA) – American officials said that at least five American soldiers were injured in an attack on a military base in Iraq on Monday evening.

The Pentagon confirmed that the US Secretary of Defense and his Zionist counterpart agreed that the attack on US forces in Iraq constitutes a dangerous escalation.

This event comes amid a state of alert in the Middle East for a possible new wave of attacks from Iran and its allies after the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau head Ismail Haniyeh and the senior military commander of the Lebanese Hezbollah group, Fouad Shukr, last week.

Two Iraqi security sources reported that two Katyusha rockets were fired at Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq. One of the sources said that the two missiles fell inside the base.

American officials, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said that one of the soldiers was seriously injured. They stated that the number of wounded is based on preliminary information that could change.
