Hadramout tribes move to recruit Saudi-funded 20,000 fighters

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 06 (YPA) – The so-called Hadramout Tribal Alliance is moving to recruit thousands of the sons of the province’s tribes, with Saudifunding.

Sources familiar with the matter said the move is aiming at controlling the oil fields in the Hadramout Valley, with the escalation between the UAE and Saudi Arabia increasing during the recent period.

The sources indicated that Amr bin Habrish, leader of the alliance, has headed to recruit about 20,000 fighters, funded by Saudi Arabia, form the tribes of the province’s districts.

“Young men from the tribes belonging to the Alliance are flocking to local forces to control the oil fields in the region and maintain its stability.”

Hadramout tribes are pressuring the coalition-backed Aden government to achieve the demands of the Hadramout Tribal Alliance for effective partnership amid threats to control the oil fields.

At the end of last July, the Alliance made a statement calling on the head of the Saudi-formed Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to recognize Hadramout’s right and activate its role in the partnership, represented by the “Hadramout Comprehensive Conference,” similar to the other parties participating in the political settlement, in reference to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council.
