HADRAMOUT, June 07 (YPA) – Dozens of truck drivers carried out on Wednesday a general strike in protest against the levies and royalties being imposed in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.
Local sources indicated that the drivers on the international road linking Yemen and Oman in the province refused to pay the royalties for Aqaba Essam Road’s balance in the Somme district, east of oil-rich Wadi Hadramout.
The drivers denounced stopping the work and maintenance of Aqaba Road, despite paying millions of riyals, without knowing the fate of that money.
Aqaba road has caused damages, large human and material losses for the passengers during the past years.
The roads in the southern and eastern provinces under the control of the coalition are suffering from damages to the asphalt layer without any maintenance being carried out, despite the huge revenues collected by the various parties repair them.
