ADEN, Aug. 24 (YPA) – The Southern Teachers and Educators Syndicate in Aden denied on Saturday reports of the general strike being lifted, stressing that the strike would not be lifted until meeting the teachers’ demands.
A source in the Syndicate confirmed in a news statement that rumors circulating about the strike being called off were untrue.
According to the source, the decision regarding the strike rested with the Executive Office and its members, and the final decision would be made at their meeting.
Last week, the Syndicate declared a general strike in protest against the pro-coalition Aden government’s long-standing disregard for teachers’ demands and legitimate rights, most notably the regular payment of salaries.
“The strike is an integral part of union work,” it added, warning against any attempts to disrupt it or use illegal means to obstruct it.
