TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (YPA) – Six members of the terrorist cell were killed on Saturday and two arrested during a violent and prolonged exchange of fire in in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Iran’s intelligence management announced in a statement it thwarted one of the largest terrorist plots in the east of the country.
The statement added that two intelligence officers and a police officer were also injured during the clash.
The statement revealed the terrorist cell, seven non-Iranian militants, has entered the country in recent days via the eastern border, with the goal of carrying out a dangerous and targeted terrorist operation by attacking a vital center.
A number of cars, motorcycles, and logistical equipment that the terrorists had were seized, while security services have continued investigations to uncover the circumstances of the infiltration and who is behind the support network associated with the cell.
It indicated that the cell was targeting “a vital center” in the east of the country, noting that the nature of the target resembled military targets the Zionist entity struck during the recent war, indicating possible external support.
