ADEN, Aug. 26 (YPA) – The Sanaa-appointed governor of Aden, Tariq Mustafa Salam, condemned on Tuesday what he called the abject failure of the coalition-backed Aden government in dealing with the recent flood disaster that submerged the city.
In a statement to Yemen Press Agency, Salam affirmed in a statement that the heavy rains at Aden city had exposed the fragility of the infrastructure and the absence of any real crisis management plans, paralyzing traffic and endangering the lives of citizens.
He revealed that the streets of Aden had turned into rivers overnight, isolating entire neighborhoods, blocking roads and bringing life to a complete standstill, emphasizing that this situation was not merely the result of natural factors, but rather the direct result of years of neglect, corruption, and mismanagement, despite the coalition states’ financial and military support.
Salam explained that the cause of this escalating catastrophe stems from the rampant corruption within the ranks of the coalition’s factions, and the assignment of projects to specific, influential entities with ties to mercenary leaders.
Aden governor considered the deteriorating services Aden and the southern provinces have witnessed to be a reflection of the failure of what he called the “occupation militias,” who have not provided tangible solutions to the citizens’ worsening suffering in the areas of water, electricity, sanitation, and other services, in addition to their inability to address even the most basic repercussions of the rains.
Salam held the Saudi-Emirati coalition and its affiliated factions fully responsible for this humanitarian and service-related catastrophe, stressing that their repeated promises to improve conditions have become nothing more than ink on paper, while citizens continue to pay the price of this neglect with their safety and property.
