Lavrov: Russia’s position on the Golan Heights issue has remained unchanged

SANAA, April 6 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has confirmed that “ The Golan Heights is part of Syrian territory.”

“Russia’s position on the Golan Heights issue has remained unchanged. Of course, it remains a territory of Syria,” Lavrov said in an interview with the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper ahead of his visit to Cairo.

The United Nations, however, has urged Israel to withdraw its forces from the Golan.

US President Donald Trump has declared the United States ‘ recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Syrian region it occupied in the 1967 war.
