Sanaa, UN envoy’s office discuss UNMHA transition, prospects for Yemen peace

SANAA, June 23 (YPA) – A meeting was held in Sanaa between Deputy Foreign Minister Abdul-Wahid Abu Ras and Anthony Hayward, Military Adviser to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, in the presence of Security Arrangements Chief Snezana Vuksa-Kofman and the Head of the UN Envoy’s Office in Sana’a, Mohammed Al-Ghannam.

In the meeting, the discussions focused on the latest developments regarding the transfer of responsibilities from the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeida Agreement (UNMHA) to the Office of the Special Envoy, as well as national, regional, and international developments.

Abu Ras reaffirmed Sanaa’s commitment to the peace process and the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, including the Hodeida Agreement, stressing readiness to facilitate the completion of the UNMHA transition process.

He said the time had come to achieve peace in Yemen, arguing that the current state of “neither war nor peace” could not continue, calling also on Saudi Arabia to return to negotiations to implement the roadmap and address humanitarian issues, including the continued closure of Sana’a Airport and restrictions on imports.

Abu Ras warned that misreading regional developments had contributed to delays in the peace process and could lead to renewed escalation, noting that any increase in regional tensions would have broader consequences.

For his part, representatives of the UN special envoy’s office reiterated their commitment to supporting efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace in Yemen.
