Arrest campaign launched against protesters in Hadramout amid rising public discontent

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 09 (YPA) – Local authorities in Yemen’s Hadramout province launched on Sunday an arrest campaign in the city of Mukalla, detaining several young men over their participation in civil disobedience and protests demanding improved living conditions and basic services.

The arrests came amid growing public anger over deteriorating services and worsening economic conditions, with residents criticizing measures taken against protesters and activists involved in peaceful demonstrations.

Residents voiced opposition to the arrests and called on the authorities to address the worsening service and livelihood crises and respond to public demands rather than pursue and detain protesters.

Mukalla, which is controlled by the Saudi-backed Aden government, has witnessed heightened tensions amid continued protests calling for improved services and the provision of basic necessities as economic pressures on residents intensify.
