New York Times: Israeli occupation restricts operations in Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, June 23 (YPA) – US reports revealed that the Israeli occupation forces issued new directives to their commanders on the northern front, restricting offensive operations in southern Lebanon and tightening approval procedures.

The New York Times quoted Israeli officials as saying that the instructions went into effect at the end of last week, requiring commanders to obtain prior approval from Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir before carrying out any specific military operation in southern Lebanon.

The directives indicate the occupation’s intention to tighten control over field decisions on the northern front, as tensions continue on the Lebanese border and fears of the situation escalating further.

The decision comes amid a state of caution and anticipation on the Lebanese-Palestinian border, and efforts to prevent the expansion of confrontations and avoid a wider security explosion.
