Pro-STC soldier killed, another injured in armed attack in Abyan

ABYAN, April 29 (YPA) – A soldier loyal to the “dissolved” Southern Transition Council (STC) was killed and another was injured from the “Third Support and Reinforcement Brigade” at dawn on Wednesday in an armed attack that targeted a military patrol at the “Urma” intersection, east of Modiyah district in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen.

According to local sources, two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at close range before fleeing to an unknown destination. While no group has officially claimed responsibility for the operation, activists affiliated with the STC have pointed toward Al-Qaeda elements as the primary suspects behind the assault.

This incident comes amid a persistent wave of ambushes and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks targeting STC military units in the Modiyah district.

It is worth noting that this surge in insecurity has been a recurring challenge since the STC forces took control of the Islah Party camps in Shabwa and Abyan following the August 2022 clashes.
