GAZA, March 16 (YPA) – Sixteen Palestinians were killed and several others injured across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, now in its 158th day, according to local authorities.
Gaza’s Interior Ministry said that the Director of the Intervention Police in the Central Governorate, Colonel Iyad Abu Yusuf was killed along with seven police officers and personnel accompanying him, as a result of a bombing by Israeli occupation aircraft targeting a police vehicle on Salah al-Din Street near the entrance to the town of Al-Zawayda
Fourteen others were injured in the same attack.
Early Monday, Israeli aircraft struck areas south of Khan Younis, while Israeli forces also opened fire east of Gaza City.
Medical sources also reported the death of Nael Al-Barawi, a commander in Hamas’ armed wing, who succumbed to wounds sustained about a week earlier.
Late Sunday, three people, including a child, were killed and two others injured after a wall collapsed onto tents housing displaced families. The casualties were taken to the Nasser Medical Complex.
Since the ceasefire was announced on Oct. 11, the death toll has reached 673, with 1,770 injured, while 756 bodies have been recovered, according to the figures.
The total number of casualties since the start of the war on Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to more than 72,239 killed and 171,861 wounded, the sources added.
