Widespread public protests sweep southern provinces to reject Saudi guardianship, condemn service deprivation

ADEN, July 31 (YPA) – Angry public demonstrations swept the streets of the southern and eastern provinces (Aden, Dhalea, Mahra, Socotra, Hadramout, Abyan, Shabwa, and Lahj) for the third consecutive week.

Protesters rallied against policies of starvation, the degradation of basic services, and Saudi guardianship, while demanding peaceful solutions before resorting to armed options.

Demonstrators condemned the continued seven-month detention of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) delegation in Riyadh, demanding their return to Aden. They also held the Saudi-backed government and the Saudi “Special Committee” responsible for deteriorating living conditions, power outages, and the systematic exclusion of southern cadres.

In the same context, a protest rally took place in Aden in front of the Ministry of Social Affairs to reject Saudi guardianship and denounce the storming of the Trade Union Federation headquarters, holding the “Special Committee” fully responsible for the ongoing escalation.
