Abyan military council threatens to move protests to Maashiq Palace in Aden

ABYAN, Nov. 20 (YPA) – Dozens of military and security personnel staged a protest today, Thursday, in Lawder city of Abyan Governorate, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, denouncing the continued non-payment of their salaries.

Participants in their second protest carried banners expressing their strong frustration, denouncing the coalition-backed government for ignoring their demands regarding salaries that have been overdue since June.

During the protest, Faisal Al-Jaari, head of “Military Council of Lawder and Central Abyan Districts,” said the demonstration was a response to the failure of the “Presidential Leadership Council” and pro- coalition government to address their demands, which had been submitted last week.

Al-Jaari threatened to escalate actions against the pro-coalition bodies if their demands are not met.

He outlined a plan to move the protests to Maashiq Palace in Aden, bringing together retired military and civilian personnel from central Abyan in coordination with retirees throughout the southern governorates.

The protest comes as part of a series of peaceful actions carried out by retirees and public employees in southern and eastern Yemen to pressure the pro-coalition government to fulfill its duties towards its citizens.

The coalition, led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, has compounded the suffering of military and civilian employees in southern Yemen, as pro- coalition government fails to pay salaries for the sixth consecutive month amid widespread service outages—including electricity—and a sharp decline in living standards.
