Dozens of women detained in Al-Khokha city over begging charges

HODEIDA, Nov. 20 (YPA) – UAE-backed factions loyal to Tariq Saleh launched a wide-ranging arrest campaign, Thursday, detaining dozens of women and girls in Al-Khokha city, southern Hodeida Governorate, on charges of begging due to poverty.

Pro-coalition media said Tariq Affash’s factions arrested women and girls begging for survival in the streets, detaining them in private facilities because of their poverty.

The reports noted that the women begging on the streets of Al-Khokha to support their families were portrayed as “an uncivilized sight,” while no programs have been implemented to improve the economic conditions or livelihoods of impoverished families.

The detentions of poor women, forced by dire circumstances to beg for survival, have been compared to the recent crackdown on activists, including Tihama movement leader Mohamed Al-Mandaei, who was detained last Saturday.
