ADEN, Aug. 15 (YPA) – The UAE has closed the office of deputy of Southern Transitional Council (STC), Ahmed Saeed Bin Braik, in the coalition-held city of Aden city, south of Yemen.
The media sources circulated reports that the closure of Bin Braik’s office in Aden was due to his opposition to the closed-door discussions about changes to the Saudi-formed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), led by Rashad Al-Alimi.
The proposed changes would include two figures representing the northern and southern province in the PLC, and may be headed by Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh Afash, and a southern figure, likely STC’s head Aidarous al-Zubaidi, in the coming months.
The sources indicated that directives were issued to close Bin Braik’s office, move documents and belongings to his home, and dismiss his employees without prior notice.
Pro-STC media personality Kholoud Khaita confirmed the closure of Bin Braik’s office, based on a personal phone call with him, after the STC activists accused her of lying and treason.
Local observers from the southern governorates believe that the Transitional Council’s leaders, particularly those calling for a “separation” project and a return to Yemen’s pre-unification status on May 22, 1990.
Saudi Arabia was able to restrict the STC and prevent it from undertaking any political moves to implement its demands on the ground, including its participation in the April 2022 Riyadh Consultations, which made the STC within the so-called “legitimate Yemeni Republic” by returning the Saleh regime to the Presidential Ma’ashiq Palace in Aden.
