Humanitarian Affairs Council: Over 4 million IDPs in Yemen living in catastrophic situation

SANAA, Oct. 9 (YPA) – The Supreme Council for Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation has confirmed that the number of the internally displaced people (IDPs) had risen to more than 4,168,000 displaced people by the end of last August.

The Council stated, in a report issued Thursday, that the number of displaced families reached 606,694 families, while the number of displaced individuals reached 4,168,301 individuals in 15 Yemeni provinces.

The report indicated that hundreds of thousands of IDPs have been living in a catastrophic humanitarian situation for more than five years due to the continued Saudi-American aggression and the blockade that caused the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to United Nations reports.

This comes at a time the UN organizations announce the reduction of aid and the closure of projects, while the IDPs camps lack the most basic ingredients, in light of the suspension of food and medicine aid and the spread of diseases, which exacerbates the humanitarian crisis.

The report affirmed that the United Nations organizations have deliberately failed to create sustainable projects or income-generating assistance that would help the displaced to live a decent life, instead of the meager aid that does not meet even their lowest needs.

More than two million displaced people are not receiving aid so far, despite the continuous calls for the organizations to fulfill their role and responsibilities towards the displaced, according to the report.

The report showed that the number of displaced families in Hajjah province reached 113,260 families, while the number of displaced individuals reached 792,820 individuals.

In Hodeidah province, the number of displaced families reached 89,880 families, and 692,160 displaced individuals.

In the capital Sanaa, the number of displaced families reached 75,940 families, in addition to 531,580 individuals displaced.

In Amran province, the number of displaced families reached 40,560 families, while the number of displaced persons reached 283,920 individuals.

In Dhalea province, the number of displaced families reached 5,022 families, and the number of displaced individuals 35,154 individuals.

In Marib province, the number of displaced families reached 6,858 families, and 41,148 displaced individuals.

In Bayda province, there are 12,913 displaced families, while the number of displaced individuals reached 90,391 individuals.

In Rayma province, there are 8,065 displaced families, and the number of displaced individuals reached 56,455 individuals.

According to the report, the number of displaced families in Dhamar province reached 31,467 families, and the number of displaced persons reached 220,296 individuals.

In Jawf province, the number of displaced families reached 22,538 families, and 150,472 displaced individuals.

In Ibb province, the report indicated that there are 32,237 displaced families, and 225,659 displaced individuals in the province.

In Mahweet province, the number of displaced families reached 7,073 families and 42,240 displaced individuals.

In Sanaa province, the number of displaced families reached 24,243 families, while the number of displaced persons reached 169,701 individuals,

In Saada province, the number of displaced families reached 70,504 families, while the number of displaced individuals reached 493,528 persons.

In Taiz province, the number of displaced families reached 57,134 families, and the number of displaced individuals reached 342,804 individuals.
