Sanaa Foreign Ministry condemns expansion of European sanctions on Hamas, Islamic Jihad

SANAA, May 31 (YPA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sanaa government expressed, in a statement issued on Sunday, its strong condemnation of the European Council’s decision to expand the so-called sanctions imposed on the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements.

The Ministry explained that this decision contradicts positive European stances regarding current events in the Gaza Strip, pointing to the positions of certain European nations, foremost among them Spain, alongside the broad popular movement and protests witnessed across several European cities, and the participation of European activists in the “Global Sumud Flotilla” aimed at breaking the siege on Gaza.

The statement added that the decision reflects the scale of Zionist influence on a number of European policies, calling on the peoples of Europe to reassess their governments’ stances. It also noted that the decision coincides with the continuation of acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, expanding military operations and occupation within the Palestinian territories, restrictions on humanitarian aid, repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, and escalation in the West Bank.

Furthermore, it pointed to the ongoing military escalation in Lebanon amid a lack of commitment to international laws and norms by the Israeli occupation.

The Ministry concluded by reaffirming the Sanaa government’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the rest of the resistance factions with all available capabilities, stressing that such decisions will not affect the will of the Palestinian people to continue their struggle.
