Syrian youth injured by Israeli fire amid escalating incursions in southern Syria

DAMASCUS, May 31 (YPA) – A Syrian youth was injured by direct gunfire from Israeli occupation forces in the Wadi al-Raqad area, located in the governorate’s western countryside, local sources in the Daraa Governorate of southern Syria reported on Sund.

The victim sustained wounds to his thigh and right arm. United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) personnel rushed to provide first aid at the scene before transferring him to a hospital in the Daraa countryside.

This incident follows a series of recent escalations. On May 26, human rights sources documented Israeli forces firing heavy machine guns toward agricultural lands surrounding Wadi al-Raqad before withdrawing back into the occupied Golan Heights.

Concurrent Ground Incursions

The region has witnessed intensive Israeli military movements over the past 24 hours, including:

  • Western Daraa Countryside: An Israeli military patrol consisting of four vehicles advanced into the area between the villages of Ma’ariya and Al-Ardah in the Yarmouk Basin. The move triggered widespread anxiety among local residents, though no arrests were reported.
  • Southern Quneitra Countryside: Three Israeli military vehicles loaded with troops and equipment crossed the administrative borders, advancing along the road connecting the town of Kudnah and the village of Al-Asbah. The units conducted rapid sweeping and reconnaissance operations before withdrawing behind the disengagement line.

These rapid field maneuvers and ongoing Israeli occupation violations in southern Syria come amid total silence from the Syrian Interim Government.
