ADEN, May 31 (YPA) – Armed elements affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) stormed the Al-Memdara police station in Aden—a city currently under the control of Saudi forces—in an apparent move to suppress evidence of a recent child sexual abuse case that has sparked widespread public outrage.
Local sources reported that the gunmen plundered the investigation files, ransacked the premises, and issued direct threats to the acting police chief and personnel on duty. No resistance was reported from the security forces inside the station during the raid.
The incident has triggered a wave of condemnation among human rights activists and commentators, who viewed the assault as a stark indicator of the city’s fragile security situation and the growing impunity of armed factions.
Observers questioned how the perpetrators managed to escape despite the heavy deployment of military checkpoints throughout Aden’s streets.
This development follows revelations by human rights organizations and activists late this May exposing an organized network involved in abuses against children. The groups have leveled accusations against political and security figures, alleging high-level complicity and protection for those implicated in the crimes.
