Iran: IRGC thwarts military equipment smuggling on western border, downs US drone

TEHRAN, May 31 (YPA) – The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday that it has thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of dual-use military reconnaissance equipment into the country across the western border, specifically in the Urmia region.

According to the public relations office of the “Hamzeh Sayyid al-Shuhada” headquarters of the IRGC Ground Forces, the operation was executed based on precise intelligence. Officials stated that the seized shipment included advanced cameras and optical surveillance devices, which were being transported under the supervision of a separatist group with the backing of hostile intelligence agencies.

The IRGC intelligence department emphasized that any movements or activities targeting the country’s security would be met with immediate and decisive measures.

In a related development, the IRGC announced earlier today that it had shot down an American “MQ1” drone after it entered Iranian airspace in an attempt to carry out a “hostile act.” These developments come amidst what Tehran describes as ongoing efforts to counter ceasefire violations following the recent US-Israeli aggression that lasted nearly 40 days.
