RIYADH, Aug. 29 (YPA) – Yemeni political sources revealed that the Saudi “Special Committee” has allocated approximately $5 million to Rashad Al-Alimi, president of the Presidential Leadership Council.
The funds are intended to finance promotional activities for the “Movement to Restore the Role of the General People’s Congress (GPC),” aiming to secure Al-Alimi’s position as head of the GPC and sidelining Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The sources noted that the campaign, led by Information Minister Moammar Al-Eryani under the direct supervision of Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jaber, focuses on calling for the party’s return to its pre-2014 status.
This strategy seeks to block the UAE-based son of former President Saleh from competing against Riyadh’s candidate. Additionally, Al-Jaber is reportedly conducting intensive communications with GPC leaders abroad to convince them to appoint Al-Alimi and organize an expanded meeting in the coming period.
