ABU DHABI, Jan. 18 (YPA) – The UAE issued on Sunday unprecedented threats against Saudi Arabia, signaling its intention to reveal what it described as “files on corruption, money laundering, and support for Islamic and terrorist organizations” allegedly linked to the kingdom over recent years.
Khalid al-Shumeiri, head of the center for political studies in Abu Dhabi and political adviser to UAE-backed Tareq Afash, nephew of the farmer president Ali Abdullah Saleh, warned that these disclosures could implicate a wide range of individuals, from the chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), Rashad al-Alimi, to junior officials within the Riyadh-based Aden government.
Al-Shumeiri also criticized the southern political movement in Riyadh, describing the opening of dialogue consultations between southern factions as a “poorly directed, comic theatrical show.”
He argued that Saudi Arabia should resort to these consultations in response to a “popular rally” in Aden, portraying the initiative as an attempt to protect its own interests.
Describing the Riyadh dialogue as a charade, he said: “Any dialogue with a delegation that was forcibly dissolved, any dialogue with a shackled delegation that cannot make its own decisions.”
Al-Shumeiri concluded by condemning the consultations, describing them as “a betrayal and sale of the southern cause.”
He claimed that the true objective of the South–South dialogue was to hand over Aidarous al-Zubaidi, head of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council, to what he termed the “Saudi saw,” while providing Rashad al-Alimi, chairman of the PLC, with a Saudi-backed route to regain full authority at Maashiq Palace.
