GAZA, Sept. 08 (YPA) – The Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip on Monday launched an urgent appeal to the world, warning of an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe after the escalation of intense Israeli bombardment that has turned entire neighborhoods into rubble over the past three days.
According to an official statement, the continuous raids have destroyed five high-rise residential towers, each with more than seven floors, containing about 209 apartments that housed thousands of civilians, in just 72 hours.
The civil defense pointed out that under the current emergency conditions, each apartment housed at least 20 people, most of them children, women, and the elderly, which means that more than 4,100 people have become homeless overnight.
The statement also confirmed that the bombardment also targeted hundreds of tents that families had taken as a last refuge from the raids, as more than 350 tents that housed about 3,500 displaced people were destroyed, leaving them now without a roof or protection.
As a result, the total number of affected families has risen to more than 550 families, or nearly 7,600 citizens living in the open, in a scene described by the civil defense as “the extermination of humanity amidst the world’s silence.”
The statement said, “Gaza City is burning… and thousands of souls are left to struggle with hunger, thirst, the heat of the sun, and continuous bombardment, while the international community is content with watching,” calling on all humanitarian organizations and international bodies to intervene immediately and urgently to save civilians.
