ABYAN, March 23 (YPA) – A leader in al-Qaeda organization was killed, on Saturday, in an unidentified airstrike in Abyan governorate, southern Yemen.
Local sources reported that a drone, believed to be American, launched an airstrike on an Al-Qaeda stronghold in Wadi al-Nasil of Maudiyah district, east of Abyan.
The source added that the airstrike resulted in the death of al-Qaeda leader Qasim al-Marqashi and his companion, indicating that al-Marqashi is one of the organization’s field commanders and responsible for several attacks launched against coalition-affiliated factions.
The killing of the al-Qaeda leader follows the death of another Saudi national, Abu Muhammad al-Hudhali al-Makki, in mid-February in a drone strike in al-Masina’ah area of ASSa’id district of Shabwa governorate.
