HADRAMOUT, Aug. 10 (YPA) – Tens of residents of the city of Shihr of the coalition-held Hadramout province carried out a civil disobedience campaign on Sunday for paralyzing public movement in the city.
The campaign was launched to protest against the continued deterioration of basic services and difficult living conditions.
Dozens of shops were closed, and residents refrained from their daily fishing and sea activities, refusing to accept the coalition-backed local authorities’ disregard for the residents’ demands.
The organizers of the disobedience called for reducing food price following the depreciation of the exchange rate, strict market controls, and a resolution to the worsening electricity and water crises.
For two consecutive weeks, residents of Shihr and other Hadramout cities are rejecting the deteriorating situation, amid calls for the dismissal of Hadramout governor Mabkhot bin Madi, regardless of the appointments imposed by the coalition.
Protests have been resumed in Mukalla and Shihr on the Hadramout coast, as well as Tarim and Seiyun in Wadi Hadramout, following Bin Madi’s return to Mukalla on Saturday after an absence of nearly four months in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The demands of the Hadramout people included the immediate improvement of electricity and water services, a reduction in the prices of basic commodities, especially oil products, and the prosecution of those who plunder natural resources.
