HADRAMOUT, Aug. 10 (YPA) – Armed men from the Hadramout Tribal Alliance imposed their complete control over the entrances to one of the important cities in the Hadramout Valley on Sunday.
A well-informed local source reported that the Saudi-backed alliance established six armed points at the entrances and in the center of the city of Tarim, and assigned the so-called “Lutfi Badin” to command them, under the pretext of securing the city.
The source explained that the armed points are supported by tribal elements from the “Al-Menhali, Al-Tamimi, and Al-Awamer” tribes, after demonstrators were subjected to attacks during popular protests last weekend by security and military forces affiliated with the First Region loyal to Islah.
This escalation comes after the suppression of protests demanding improved electricity and water services and lower prices, where force and tear gas were used against the demonstrators, following the blocking of the international road to trucks and tankers last week.
Meanwhile, activists from Hadramout believe that the tribal alliance’s control of Tarim is a preemptive step directed at limiting the movements of the Transitional Council leaders loyal to the UAE in the city.
