Islah militants detain local official with his family in Taiz

TAIZ, Aug. 09 (YPA) – Islah militants detained a local official loyal to the coalition, along with his family, and prevented him from crossing one of their military checkpoints in the Al-Kadha area, west of Taiz city.

Local sources reported that Islah-affiliated military police detained Mohammed Ahmed Sabr, the deputy director-general of the so-called “Hodeida Ports Corporation,” affiliated with the coalition at the Naqil Al-Karra checkpoint in the Al-Kadha area, while he was coming from Mocha and heading to his hometown of Sabr Al-Masrakh to visit his sick mother.

The sources explained that Sabr tried hard to convince the Islah militants to show his personal ID and personal weapon permit, but his attempts failed, indicating that they rejected the directives of the coalition-affiliated governor, the General People’s Congress (GPC), Nabil Shamsan, and the leadership of the Taiz Axis, to release him, and his detention continued until the late hours of the night.

For its part, the Secretariat of the Yemeni Socialist Party, affiliated with the coalition, in Taiz condemned, in a statement issued on Saturday, the detention of its Central Committee member, Mohammed Sabr, by Islah members, describing it as a “reckless act.”

It considered Sabr’s detention a systematic political targeting and demanded that the members of the military checkpoint be held accountable and that his reputation be restored in a manner commensurate with his status, according to the statement.
