ADEN, March 10 (YPA) – A number of citizens in the southern Yemeni city of Aden were assaulted and kidnapped by armed elements affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions.
Human rights sources reported that the Transitional Council factions attacked a number of citizens who were near a roundabout adjacent to one of the factions’ military points in the Al-Banjsar neighborhood in Al-Tawahi district.
The sources attributed the incident of assault and kidnapping of citizens to verbal altercations that broke out between one of the citizens and the checkpoint personnel, which developed into an armed assault on the citizens with rifle butts.
The sources pointed out that the reason for the dispute was due to the refusal of the Transitional Council elements to allow citizens to sit in front of their homes, which the citizens considered an arbitrary act and a violation of their rights.
The Transitional Council factions continue to commit repeated violations against citizens in Aden, amid the absence of state authorities in the city since the beginning of 2016.
