SHABWA, March 10 (YPA) – The leadership of the UAE-backed factions in Shabwa Governorate, southeastern Yemen, has refused to hand over those accused of assassinating Dr. Salem Al-Khalifi, who was killed in the city of Ataq, the governorate’s capital, in mid-last year.
Local human rights sources confirmed that the commander of the “Second Shabwa Defense Brigade,” Wajdi Baoum, ignored the public prosecution’s orders to hand over the soldiers involved in the incident, despite nearly eight months having passed since the crime occurred.
The assassination took place near the Ben Amer station, while Dr. Al-Khalifi was returning home after finishing his shift at the Shabwa hospital.
The sources pointed out that Baoum continues to protect the suspects, sparking widespread outrage among human rights groups, who are demanding that the suspects be handed over to the prosecution unconditionally.
