Hundreds of protesters rally against skyrocket of food prices in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 05 (YPA) – An angry demonstration was erupted on Tuesday in the UAE-backed factions-held Zinjibar city, the provincial capital of Abyan, south of Yemen.

Local sources said that the demonstration led to escalating chaos and attacks on property.

The sources in the city affirmed that hundreds of protesters rallied against the skyrocket of prices and the lack of services, including electricity, and turned protest into riots, which resulted in material losses to shops and exchange offices.

The chaos in Zinjibar stemmed from a campaign of incitement by UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) leaders against merchants and exchange companies, as a result of the absence of state authorities.

The sources pointed out that a number of pro-STC demonstrators attacked shops, smashing shop windows and damaging surveillance cameras with stones.

Abyan and other southern provinces have been witnessed chaos and angry popular protests due to the deteriorating living and service conditions in recent years.
