ADEN, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Leaders loyal to the Saudi-led coalition have imported a large shipment of luxury alcohol, estimated to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, to the city of Aden in southern Yemen, private sources reported on Monday.
According to informed sources, the shipment was seized on the coasts of the Al-Madhariba and Ras Al-Ara areas in Al-Sabaiha while heading towards Aden city.
This comes at a time citizens are suffering from worsening living conditions and difficulty accessing basic services such as electricity, in light of the ongoing economic deterioration and a surge in the exchange rate of the US dollar to about 2,300 riyals.
Amid these dire circumstances, the pro-coalition government officials have chosen to allocate scarce foreign currency resources to importing alcohol instead of addressing essential needs such as fuel for electricity. Fuel shipments have not been imported for the fourth consecutive month, fueling growing frustration among the population.
