ABYAN, Jan. 07 (YPA) – The factions of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) reported on Tuesday that they foiled an attempted attack with an explosive device in the Modiya district, east of Abyan province in southern Yemen.
According to the factions, the explosive device, which had been set to detonate on the main road in the Qarn Ashal area east of Modiya, was safely dismantled. The device reportedly targeted a military vehicle belonging to the supporting and backing factions operating in the district.
This incident followed an attack last Sunday, during which Hamza Al-Najdi, serving as the reconnaissance officer within the STC factions, was injured along with three of his companions when an explosive device hit their military vehicle.
The region is witnessing an escalation in terrorist operations targeting the STC factions, coinciding with the deployment of pro-Saudi forces known as “Dera Al-Watan” in both Modiya and Lawdar districts in recent months.
Terrorist elements continue to carry out their attacks against the STC factions in Modiya since the latter announced its control over the Islah Party-affiliated camps as part of Operation “Siham Al-Sharrq,” which was launched in mid-August 2022.
