SANAA, July 31 (YPA) – The General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces announced that its ground anti-aircraft missiles responded on Wednesday to two hostile drones that targeted the site of the celebration of the graduation of batches of military, air and naval colleges in the Red Sea State in northeastern Sudan.
The office of the official spokesman for the Armed Forces said in a statement published on Facebook: “The accident caused the death of 5 people, and there were minor injuries that are being determined”.
A previous statement by the Sudanese army had stated that the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, witnessed the graduation of the 68th batch of the Military College, and the 20th and 23rd batches of the Air College and the Naval Academy, at the Infantry Institute Stadium in Jebet, Red Sea State.
The Rapid Support Forces, which have been fighting the army for about 15 months, did not claim responsibility for any attack, and did not comment on the incident.
The strike comes a day after the State Department conditionally accepted a US invitation to hold talks in Switzerland in August.
