Qatar releases eight Indians accused of for Zionist entity

DOHA, Feb. 12 (YPA) – The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Monday that the Qatari authorities pardoned and released eight Indian citizens who were accused of spying for the Zionist entity, after a Qatari court had previously sentenced them to death.

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement posted on social media that seven of these Indians returned to their homeland on Monday morning.

The ministry’s statement said: “The Government of India welcomes the release of eight Indian nationals who were working for Dahra Global and who were detained in Qatar. Seven of them have returned to India. We highly appreciate the decision of the Emir of the State of Qatar to release these citizens and ensure their return to their homeland.”

The aforementioned eight were arrested in Qatar in August 2022 on charges of spying for the Zionist entity.

In October 2023, the court of first instance sentenced them to death. In December, the Qatari Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to long prison terms, at which time New Delhi announced that it would seek the full release of the Indian citizens.
