Fire detroys mosque in Swedish city

WORLD, Sept. 26 (YPA) – A huge fire has destroyed the largest mosque in the Swedish city of Eskilstuna, less than three hours after it broke out, and police announced an investigation into an arson attack.

Fire crews have failed to save the main building, while attempts are still underway to control the fire and prevent it from destroying two buildings attached to the mosque.

The fire in the Arby section of the city of Eskilstuna was caused by arson, Anas Deneche, the mosque’s Communication Director said.

Police records show the mosque has faced threats and was subjected to physical attacks, he said, adding that they are sure that this was an arson attack.

The mosque is unusable due to the damage, according to local police.

An investigation of the incident is under way, it added.
