SANAA, Aug. 19 (YPA) – Senator Josh Hawley has called on Biden administration officials to resign over the “failed” US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which led to the Taliban’s rapid return to power.
“There must be a full congressional investigation into the overvaluation of the Afghan government’s capacity and underestimating the Taliban,” Hawley said, according to the US newspaper The Hill.
“This is the worst foreign policy debacle since Vietnam, due to Joe Biden. He has lost the confidence of the American people and the ability to lead. Biden’s entire defense and foreign policy team must resign, and there must be a full congressional inquiry,” Hawley wrote on Twitter.
Hawley is a potential contender for the White House presidency in 2024 and initially expressed support in April for Biden’s decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell criticized Biden several times this week, but when asked during an interview with Fox News whether Biden should ask for resignations, his answer was unclear.
“The president can decide who works for him,” McConnell said. That’s his decision. It is his right. But it was a big mistake of great proportions.”
