Amnesty International raises “Stop the Genocide” banner during Austria-Israel match
LONDON, Sept. 29 (YPA) – Amnesty International raised a banner during the 2026/27 men’s UEFA Nations League match on 25 Sep in which Austria defeated Israel 3–1, calling for an end to the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
Amnesty International Austria raised a banner reading Stop the Genocide during the UEFA Nations League match between Austria and Israel in Linz, in a move aimed at drawing attention to the situation facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
“It’s unconscionable that the Israel men’s football team will participate in the UEFA Nations League this autumn despite clear evidence that Israel’s football association continues to support illegal settlements,” Steve Cockburn, Amnesty International’s regional director for Europe, said in a statement.
“UEFA and FIFA should have suspended the Israel Football Association (IFA) over its refusal to exclude clubs based in illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,” Cockburn said.
The organization called on football associations around the world, particularly in the Arab region, to maintain pressure and urged players to refuse to take part in matches against the Israeli team.
