LONDON, Oct. 08 (YPA) – British police arrested 11 people in London during pro-Palestine demonstrations held to mark the anniversary of “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation, the Metropolitan Police Service announced on Thursday.
In an official statement, the Metropolitan Police said officers detained the individuals across several pro-Palestine demonstrations in the capital.
Some arrests occurred during a protest outside the Board of Deputies of British Jews in North London, while others took place at various sites during student-led pro-Palestine demonstrations. Police noted that the student protests proceeded despite calls to postpone them to avoid coinciding with October 7.
According to local media reports, some demonstrators chanted calls for an intifada. Counter-protesters also gathered at Russell Square, with some carrying Israeli flags, leading to minor altercations between the two groups.
Police arrested another individual attending a pro-Palestine rally on suspicion of common assault. Demonstrators chanted slogans supporting Palestine, including “Zionists not welcome here” and “Free Palestine, from the river to the sea.”
