SANAA, Oct. 08 (YPA) – Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi addressed a new message on Thursday—his second within 24 hours—to the Qatari leadership, calling on Doha to recalibrate its political and media stance alongside Saudi Arabia against the Yemeni people.
In a televised address Thursday evening, Sayyid al-Houthi spoke directly to the Emir of Qatar, stating “We brotherly advise the Qataris to review their calculations; our people stand in a position of oppression and are defending their freedom.”
He noted that he had dispatched a similar message to Doha on Wednesday regarding Qatar’s political and media adoption of the Saudi position on Yemen, stressing that persisting in this approach constitutes “participation in the oppression of our people.”
From the Blockade of Qatar to Warning Against Riyadh
In his message, Sayyid al-Houthi recalled the measures targeted against Qatar during the Gulf crisis, invoking the blockade, incitement, political and economic isolation, and military pressure spearheaded by Saudi Arabia against Doha at the time.
He pointed out that Saudi Arabia was seeking to exert extensive pressure on Qatar, citing Saudi ambitions to effect regime change in Doha akin to the events in Bahrain, while questioning: “Did the Saudi regime have any justification for all of this against Qatar?”
Al-Houthi also addressed the presence of “US approval” regarding what he described as Saudi ambitions toward Qatar, pointing to a connection between regional maneuvers and American policies.
In another section of his speech, Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi revisited the era of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, noting that Qatar had played a role in mediation and regional conflict resolution, which had drawn Saudi displeasure. He added that Doha’s return to subordination to Saudi Arabia in foreign policy represents, according to his assessment, “a very significant retreat.”
Al-Houthi Comments on the “Al-Jazeera” TV Scandal and Warns the Qatari Regime against Saudi Treachery
On Wednesday, Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi commented on the scandal involving the Qatari channel Al-Jazeera—specifically its narrative and media disinformation in promoting false rumors regarding its report that “Mocha, Thubab, and the Bab al-Mandab on Yemen’s western coast had fallen to Saudi mobilizations.” During his remarks, he advised the Qatari regime against Saudi treachery, recalling past actions.
Speaking in a televised speech marking the third anniversary of “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation in Gaza and the latest developments in Yemen and the region, Sayyid al-Houthi said: “Al-Jazeera has descended to the level of the Saudi Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels; it aligns directly with the Qatari position.”
Addressing the Qatari regime directly regarding its biased alignment with Saudi Arabia in its media coverage and through its affiliated Al-Jazeera network, he warned: “The Qatari regime must remember how the Saudi regime betrayed it and blockaded it without justification. Do not assume that it is loyal.”
Accordingly, Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi’s messages to the Doha regime appear to have shifted from criticism of media coverage to direct political advice and warnings. This places before the Qatari leadership a comparison between its current relationship with Riyadh and its past blockade experience, attempting to link Qatar’s stance on Yemen to Doha’s broader regional calculations and its relations with Saudi Arabia.
