Washington issues worldwide security alert for Americans in Middle East

WASHINGTON, July 21 (YPA) – The US Department of State issued a worldwide alert for American citizens on Tuesday due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

“US citizens currently in the Middle East should exercise caution, increase their level of awareness, and prepare for the possibility of flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions,” the US Department of State wrote in a post on the platform “X”.

The US Department of State urged American citizens to monitor security alerts issued by embassies and consulates, follow instructions from local authorities, and stay informed through news reports regarding ongoing developments. It added:

“Americans who are outside the Middle East should reconsider travel to or through the region.”

The warning comes amid continued US strikes on Iran and Iranian retaliatory responses.

Meanwhile, US media outlets reported that Washington is preparing for large-scale military operations against Iran, while strengthening its military presence in the region.

The US military has been carrying out attacks on Iran since July 8, with the US Central Command claiming the strikes were in response to Iranian actions targeting commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s military, in response, launched attacks on US bases in several Middle Eastern countries.
