Mukalla plunged into complete darkness as blackouts exceed nine hours

MUKALLA, July 21 (YPA) – The city of Mukalla, the capital of Yemen’s oil-rich Hadramout province, which is controlled by Saudi-backed authorities, plunged into complete darkness on Monday, with power outages lasting more than nine hours due to a severe fuel shortage.

According to local sources, the sudden collapse of electricity services and the increase in power outage hours were caused by a critical shortage of diesel supplies needed to operate power plants, as well as a lack of maintenance oils for generators.

They added that the acute fuel shortage has significantly reduced the overall generation capacity of Al-Manara power station, causing large parts of the electricity network in Mukalla and its outskirts to shut down.

Yemen’s oil-rich Hadramout province is facing worsening humanitarian conditions as prolonged power outages continue, with local authorities yet to release any official explanation or response to the crisis.
