TEHRAN, June 20 (YPA) – The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, affiliated with the Iranian Armed Forces, announced on Saturday the reclosure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
The headquarters affirmed that the step came after the United States’ failure to fulfill its obligations under the first clause of the memorandum of understanding, as well as continued Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon.
In a statement carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency, the headquarters said: “We announce the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation and shipping traffic due to the United States’ failure to honor its commitments and its clear breach of the agreement by not implementing the first clause of the memorandum of understanding to end the war.”
The statement added that the measure also comes in response to what it described as ongoing Israeli ceasefire violations in southern Lebanon, including continued attacks, civilian displacement, and Israel’s failure to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanese territory.
It clarified the move represents the first phase of its response to what it called the enemy’s breach of commitments, warning that additional measures could be taken if the alleged violations continue, with the aim of compelling the other parties to abide by their obligations.
