STC calls for major Aden demonstration in challenge to Saudi-backed measures

ADEN, June 18 (YPA) – The dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Thursday declared on Thursday plans for a mass rally in Aden’s Saha al-Aroudh next Saturday under the slogan “Rejecting Guardianship and Opposing Occupation.”

In a brief statement, the STC said the demonstration aims to express opposition to the foreign interference and infringements on southern sovereignty, while sending a message to regional and international actors.

The announcement comes amid escalating tensions following calls by representatives of the Saudi-backed Aden government for sanctions against STC’s head, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, and other council figures, as well as recent measures targeting the STC’s financial assets and activities.

The planned rally is expected to highlight the STC’s stance on political developments in southern Yemen and its opposition to actions it views as undermining its role and influence in the region.

This also comes after the STC was dissolved by Saudi Arabia and its leaders were detained in Riyadh following their summons under the guise of “South-South Dialogue” in early January.
