Security official escapes assassination attempt in Aden amid security deterioration

ADEN, May 22 (YPA) – A security official in Aden, a city under Saudi control in southern Yemen, survived an assassination attempt by unknown gunmen, amid escalating lawlessness due to the ongoing conflict between regional powers.

According to local sources, “Director of Al-Imad Police” in the Dar Sad district, “Salem Ali Mansour Al-Kazemi,” escaped an assassination attempt yesterday, Thursday, when unidentified gunmen operating a “Voxy” bus opened heavy fire on his vehicle behind the Bin Lamaa station in Aden, before fleeing to an unknown destination.

The sudden attack directly damaged the vehicle, while the security official (who is from Abyan) escaped unharmed.

The incident marks the return of the “Voxy” bus, which has been repeatedly used in previous operations, amid an unprecedented security breakdown in Aden since early 2016, and escalating political and field tensions between local forces loyal to Riyadh and those loyal to Abu Dhabi.
