Tehran confirms ongoing contact with Washington; Lebanon key item in Islamabad talks

TEHRAN, April 15 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Wednesday that diplomatic momentum and the exchange of messages with the United States are ongoing through a Pakistani mediator.

He emphasized that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a primary agenda item in the current Islamabad negotiations.

Baghaei stated that talks aim to secure Iran’s national interests rather than submit to US dictates, expressing “skepticism” regarding the sustainability of any potential agreement.

He reaffirmed Iran’s right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), asserting that this right will not be surrendered under pressure.

The spokesperson noted that the Iranian armed forces remain on high alert to counter any “adventures” by Washington or the Israeli entity.

In a related context, the Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Nikzad, revealed a previous proposal to establish an international consortium—involving the US and Saudi Arabia—to dilute enriched uranium instead of surrendering it, noting that the other parties were the ones who reneged on that agreement.
