MARIB, Aug. 30 (YPA) – Armed elements affiliated with the Islah Party plunged the city of Marib into a complete blackout on Sunday after targeting two power transmission towers linked to the gas-fired power plant in the Safar area of Al-Wadi district of the province.
The city’s Electricity Corporation said the first attack was carried out by a man identified as Kalfout Al-Aji, who was documented in a video firing at power transmission tower No. 96 with a Kalashnikov, causing one of the transmission circuits to go offline.
It added that a second attack was carried out by Sadiq Ajian bin Maeili, who threw a metal object at the first circuit of the transmission lines, resulting in the complete shutdown of the gas-fired power plant and the subsequent loss of electricity across the city.
The reasons behind the alleged attacks by Al-Aji and bin Maeili on the power transmission towers in Marib remain unclear.
