US congresswoman calls for review of US support for Israeli occupation

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (YPA) – Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called for a review of the nature of US support for “Israel,” arguing that unconditional support is “illogical” and that linking it to conditions is “appropriate.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks came during her participation in a session at the Munich Security Conference, in response to a question about whether the next Democratic presidential candidate should review US military support for “Israel.”

She stressed that the idea of providing full support regardless of the behavior of the recipient party is not consistent with the principles of sound policy.

For his part, the US ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, avoided giving a direct answer to the same question, simply stating that “Israel” is “one of Washington’s closest allies.”

In another context, Ocasio-Cortez accused the administration of US President Donald Trump of trying to push the world towards an “authoritarian era,” arguing that the administration’s policies are withdrawing the United States from its traditional leadership role on the international stage and opening the way for other powers.
