Yemen forces release first-ever footage of naval strike against Marilyn Luanda in Aden

SANAA, Jan. 26 (YPA) – The military media of Yemen’s Sanaa-based armed forces revealed On Monday one of their most precise and high-risk naval operations, two years after targeting the British ship “Marilyn Luanda” in the Gulf of Aden, detailing the operation and the weapon used.

Footage released for the first time captured the operation step by step, from the precise intelligence tracking of the ship, through the decision to strike, to the missile launch and the resulting fire on January 26, 2024, during the peak of the Zionist aggression on Gaza and concurrent American-British operations in Yemen that were aimed at halting Yemeni support for the Gaza Strip.

The footage indicated that the decision to strike was made in the Gulf of Aden, despite the ship having previously passed through the Red Sea, sending a clear message that previously designated exclusion zones are no longer safe and are under close monitoring by Yemeni forces.

A naval officer in the joint command explained that the strike was executed with a homemade “Red Sea” missile, developed from the “Sair” missile. The medium-range weapon employs both thermal and radar guidance systems, enabling a highly accurate hit.

The targeted vessel, an oil tanker flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and owned by a British company, was carrying naphtha, a highly flammable substance. It was struck amidships immediately after breaching the Yemeni blockade, igniting fires on impact.

The military media clarified that three multinational warships—American, French, and Indian—participated in firefighting and crew rescue operations over a period of almost 19 hours.

The operation was part of a series of naval actions by the Yemeni armed forces in response to American and British attacks, sending a firm message against targeting Yemeni maritime operations supporting Gaza.

As documented, the operation reflected high-level planning and precise execution, demonstrating Yemen’s possession of effective naval deterrent capabilities and fully documenting the engagement, ensuring that territorial waters serve as a witness to evolving rules of engagement and the delivery of strategic messages.
